The Bio Bite Corrector (abbreviated to BBC) is one of the countless modifications of the Herbst-Appliance which looks quite similar with its telescopic mechanism. Unlike the classic Herbst-Appliance, the Bio Bite Corrector is attached directly to the fixed appliance so that protruding of the lower jaw and forming the dental arches can be managed in one phase. This significantly shortens the total treatment duration and makes the entire treatment more efficient.
Disadvantages
However, like most of the Herbst clones, the Bio-Bite-Corrector has disadvantages. It causes a higher frequency of repairs concerning the fixed appliance as it often leads to detachment of brackets and wire breakage. For this reason, the Bio-Bite-Corrector is only partially suitable as a standard solution for the treatment of the retruded lower jaw.
Advantages
In well-chosen cases, however, it undoubtedly performs well. Depending on the treatment task, the Bio-Bite-Corrector remains in the mouth for between 6 and 12 months.
Only the first few days after insertion can be experienced as uncomfortable, after that the Bio-Bite-Corrector is usually well tolerated by patients. Mechanically, the Bio-Bite-Corrector is an easy-to-handle product that is very cleanly made of titanium.
