Crozat Appliance

This is a removable brace which consists of soldered wire elements that was developed by G. Crozat around 1900. The wire parts are mainly positioned on the inside of the teeth, so that it is almost invisible while speaking. Since the Crozat-Appliance does not have any big plastic parts, it does not affect the speech as much as the active plate and is therefore ideal for adults. Like all removable braces, the Crozat-Appliance is only really effective for producing simple, tilting movements of the teeth, whereas any actual physical movement of the teeth, rotation of molars and canines or lengthening or shortening of the teeth is not possible. For this reason, the Crozat is really only suitable for simple treatment procedures. For some peculiar reasons the Crozat is quite popular in the alternative medical scene which can be traced back to the work of an orthodontist called C. Herrmann.

Since the results are generally very modest, the Crozat only really makes sense for those patients whose expectations are not very high. Since the appearance of the Invisalign-procedure, the Crozat-Appliance has now become virtually obsolete. Tipp for patients: Keep your fingers away from this appliance.
