Dental Hygiene
The demands on dental hygiene are basically greater with fixed braces because food remnants get stuck in the numerous recesses and corners of the device and, as these are difficult to get at, there can be an increased build-up of plaque.
This is even more the case with the Lingual Technique so a good brushing technique and the use of an inter-dental brush is necessary. However, even with lingual brackets, where there is motivation and sufficient time, proper cleaning of all the teeth surfaces is possible.
In spite of this, should slight decalcification and white spots appear on individual teeth during the course of treatment, the patient should be able to live with this because the affected surfaces are not visible: so there are no aesthetic adverse effects as a consequence of this.
